It's really great how completely reasonable things seem when you're half asleep. I was woken at 3:00am by distant shouting, some fellow's drunken carousing. Through blurry half-open eyes I could just make out the moonlight coming through the open window and I thought to myself "That shouting could be one of those zombies from 28 Days Later. I should probably get up and shut the window, just in case. I know that wouldn't stop them from getting in, but it might be just enough that they pass me by. I should probably turn the alarm clock towards the wall, too, since they might look in and be attracted to the glow from the lighted numbers." Half-dreaming but completely lucid, I thought about this for a good five minutes, weighing the pros and cons of slight added zombie concealment versus not getting out of my comfortable bed. Then I went back to sleep.

I had a big buncha basil left over from Sunday dinner* so on the way home from work I stopped at Stah Mahket for pine nuts and garlic; toasted the nuts, smashed the garlic, drizzled olive oil, threw in grated parmesan and Cuisinarted the fuck outta that mess. Didn't taste quite right. Oh yeah, salt. More pine nuts and parmesan, for luck. Tranquility base, we have pesto. Two heaping spoonfuls on penne is the lunch I brought today, the garlicky aroma will be an almost-visible haze around my cubicle this afternoon. Hah!

*Marlin with Coconut Red Curry Cream Sauce. Something went terribly wrong with my choice of coconut cream, and it came out way too sweet. Blah. If I try it again I'll use coconut milk. Oh well.

This girl Jen I dated in college, I just saw her on TV. I knew she was a reporter for MTV, but I never thought I'd see her talking about backstage antics at the Video Music Awards. Yikes!
