Oct. 15th, 2003 08:42 amFriday was the most convenient night to celebrate my birthday so we managed to crowd 25 people around a very long table at Marche Movenpick in the Prudential center. Most amusing thing about Marche is everyone spends the first twenty minutes a walking in circles around the food islands with a dazed expression on their face…so much food…all so tasty…sensory overload…. The secret is to hit the bar-island first so you can carry your drink around with you, it makes the whole process less intimidating. I was on my second glass of sauvignon blanc when I finally decided on the seafood platter, an artfully arranged pile of salmon, tilapia, shrimp kebab, oysters and mussels on top of wild rice pilaf. Quang and I destroyed the seafood platter and a plate of shrimp cocktail and probably would have ordered a crepe if I didn't have to get back to my house before people started showing up for the after-dinner party. Lots of the drinking. I hope people had a good time. I think I did. I put handfuls of styling goo in Christian and Raul and Jen and Ethan's hair. I made Jen look like the statue of liberty and spiked Christian's goatee. Bridget got really drunk which doesn't happen very often cuz she's Irish and stuff. It was great.
The sun came up and I went to bed. I think my hangover actually woke me up around 9:00 in the morning, so I got up and drank a glass of water and went back to bed. By 1:00 I was fine and dandy, Tricia and I went to Kat's pumping carving party where I used one of those carving stencil things for the first time ever, they're neat they let you make impressively detailed designs that'd be impossible under normal circumstances, tho it still feels a little like cheating. We did a medusa head and then rushed back to the city to meet people for dinner in Chinatown and Kill Bill. My lord, what a movie. I can't stop thinking about it, I loved it and I need to see it again. It's a bit violent. There's this French Japanese translator named Sophie Fatale played by this actress Julie Dreyfus and she is hotter than hot. I would run over Keira Knightly, Liv Tyler and Monica Bellucci just to hold her decaf latte.
