I've always had more money than the girls I've dated. This isn't too surprising, since 1) I'm male and 2) I'm older; statistically, it's almost guaranteed. It's no big deal, it's just a fact, like the town you were born or the color of your eyes. You wouldn't treat your girlfriend or boyfriend differently if they were richer or poorer, no one believes that the amount of money you have has anything to do with your value as a person. To think any differently is to be a complete ass, everyone knows that.

But you can't deny that you are aware of how much money your girlfriend or boyfriend has. It is a dynamic, and the interesting thing is hardly anyone has experienced both sides of that dynamic. I don't know anyone who’s gone from being the one making half as much money to being the one who brings home twice as much dough. Yeah whatever, money doesn't mean anything blah blah blah…but how can you be so sure, how can we truly say that we would feel absolutely no different, if we've never had the opportunity to experience that other position. I'm just fascinated by the unconscious effects, the influence of money and power on human interaction, roles and reversal. Maybe I could expand this into a research experiment, attempt to date a woman in her early-to-mid-40's who earns twice as much money as me. I'd totally be up for it, purely in the interests of science, you understand.
