Me and Couplingchaos went to see Swan Lake last week. The Matthew Bourne version been getting all the hype, with the guys as swans and horror movie ad posters. It was really cool - neat blend of ballet dance styles, great costumes (the guys kinda looked like dancing chickens but in a cool way), humor, tension, drama, and homoerotism galore. I'm not familiar with the story at all so I didn't know what to expect, the fairytale mix of royal intrigue and alluring yet menacing faerie and tortured obsessive protagonist was kinda confusing at times, but the general story was clear enough. Went online to find what the story behind classic production is and it's not much clearer, plus directors through the years have altered the story a dozen times to suit individual productions. But yeah, awesome show. Makes ya wanna prance down the supermarket aisles with your arms flapping over your head.

Saturday woke up early to join Tegin and Heatray and work-buddy Ethan to haul up to Rumney NH for to do some climbing, the weather turned out perfect – seventy degrees sunny, early in the season so hardly any bugs, oh my god it was nice. The rock there was really great, more interesting than Quincy Quarries, a lot higher, a lot more different routes. Ethan lead all the routes first, anchoring at the end so we could top-rope them, cuz I'm way too chicken to lead outside, even tho the routes were only a 5.8 and 5.9. Man, outdoor climbing is was scary and that rock hurts. I could swear the routes were taller than at Metrorock, forty-feet plus, but Ethan said that they just look taller because when you're looking up your eyes disappear into the open sky, as opposed to the ceiling of the gym where you have more perspective. I dunno, sure as hell seemed a long way down. Something about being out in nature, trees all around, the open sky, lends this earth-connecty sense of awesome to the day. If only it were closer, two and a half hours drive is a bit rough, but what am I saying Tegin did all the driving anyway.

Got home in time to take a quick fifteen-minute nap, wash up, scarf down some food and get dressed before people came over to hang out and party before taking off for the Soul Revival party Tegin clued us into. It was at the Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center in the South End, same place Bloodfeast was at, and I think they've been remodeling it because it was a lot more gorgeous than last time I was there, I think it may be the best-looking venue I've been to in Boston. Soaring cathedral roof four stories up, wrap around balcony with gorgeous woodwork, check out that curving staircase up! Great new flooring wall to wall, good size stage, excellent sound, I can't think of any place I'd rather see a band. I know the B&D Ball is already set at the Cyclorama but oh if we could have it there instead. But then the it's actually too small, I know, the floor is probably not quite as big as the two dance floors of ManRay put together, and with no other walking round space the night would be a nightmare. Railings round the balcony aren't very tall either, like mid-thigh high, can't have people teetering around in latex and platforms up there, it'd be raining perverts.

Anyhow, the night was awesome, the djs played a mix of soul and R&B and house and techno and 80's pop dance but it was all stuff that I've never heard before or maybe just seldom heard, totally a feelgood groove, you know? There were always breakdancers going in places, some of them were incredible, doing backflips and stuff. The whole night had this really awesome vibe too it, there was no attitude or anything ever. I think it was partly because this party is a non-regular thing, so there are no regulars to get snotty; if everyone's a little unfamiliar and feeling new, then we're all in the same boat and I think that shared experience makes for a totally friendlier atmosphere. Whatever it was, was a fabulous new night, can't wait for the next one.

Helped move LaBelleMargaux the next day, never had so much trouble getting things up a stairway before, we very unfortunately couldn't get the queen box spring up, Margeaux's gonna need a new one, hopefully you can get one of those two-boxspring sets for not too much money. Oog.

Shlepped round Harvard Square and picked up comics (new Planetary!), sale at EMS got me climbing pants (wearing them right now, going bouldering tonight). Then home and TheAmazingJB came over, we made veggie burgers; its' really neat, just throw stuff into a food processor and make patties. I need a bigger Cuisinart, the teeny little Mini Prep I've had for years is cute but not really up to serious jobs. Using the blender JB shattered a wooden stir-spoon. I am beginning to think this woman is a force of destruction.

Monday
Ytima and Trollll arrived in their gleaming white SUV, made veggie sushi and got out to Ceremony. Tuesday night I was way too strung out from post-club sleepy long day worky to make it out to Addis Red Sea with them, moo. Poked at some props for the B&D Ball and went to bed. So now here I am Wednesday;,and Cinco De Mayo approacheth with a giggling ferocity. Hey I will have been employed here at Varian for one year, check that out.
