The Crazies
Mar. 9th, 2010 11:33 amCouplinschaos and I went to see The Crazies, it sounded like a good zombie-infection government-conspiracy flick. And I’m a sucker for anything with Timothy Olyphant as sheriff since TheAmazingJB and I began our unhealthy Deadwood obsession. Anyhow, The Crazies is decent. It feels a little cheap in places; creepy tense music and jumpy-out-at-you scares are just so easy for a filmmaker to rely on, scary at first but after a while you’re just unimpressed. But I liked the creative use of a carwash as horror setting. When you think about it, a carwash is a natural location for creepiness: you got the claustrophobic enclosed space of a car interior, the weird play of shadows and light as the water and suds and rollers and are assaulting the windows and roof, the sounds are all ominous and rhythmic *kshhhh-shunk kshhh-shunk*. It’s the Carwash of DOOOOOOOOM!
