The Spartan Race was really, really hard. A whole lot of hill-climbing, a whole lot of shoe-eating mud. Talking to exhausted/traumatized runners of previous heats, they all said "TIE YOUR SHOES REALLY TIGHT" so I did but I still lost one shoe to a sucking mud pit. Took me five minutes to retrieve the shoe, hop off the trail, and work my foot back in. There were a couple 4-foot walls and one 10-foot wall to get over, the little parkour I know helped with those. One climbing wall traverse (score!), two mudpit crawls, one of those under barbed wire which is great incentive to keep your ass down and plant your whole body into the mud. Another tip: when crawling through mud puddles keep your mouth closed. Bleagh. There was a spear throw which I failed, an inclined greased ramp, a gauntlet of big dudes with boffer spears, and a half-dozen various other hazards. I came in 747th out of 2000 spartans, I'm impressed that I made it into the top half of runners because boy do I hate running. I kinda wanna do this again, tho.
