Went down to NYC to see Dead Can Dance, they were pretty great, of course. The new album Anastasis I honestly find kind of boring, and that Children Of The Sun song is terrible but hey it’s Dead Can Dance so whatever. I’ve seen them three times before – once in college in LA on The Serpent’s Egg tour, once at Harborlights soon after I moved to Boston (that was maybe Toward The Within?), and in Boston the last time they came here I don’t even know if they ahd a new album out for that tour. I’m not sure which show I liked best, only the songs that really blew me away – Cantara, Echolalia, American Dreaming. I don’t think they did any of those this time. What was incredible this time was the sound – the Beacon Theatre in NYC had the most amazing sound system I’ve ever heard. I dunno, whatever the combination of the acoustics, the PA, the sound guys, whatever magic was wrought I have never in my life heard such depth and warmth and power from a vocal performance. Shivers and swooning.
