I think a lot of the pop songwriting industry (like, people who would've been Brill Building types in an earlier era) has migrated to Nashville. Taylor Swift started as a songwriter and country singer, and the difference between her 'country' stuff and her 'pop' stuff is pretty small.
Couple that with the fact that pop has always been a friendlier space for women than rock or hip-hop, and it makes sense to me that the overall tenor of the lyrics would be more woman-friendly as well. ('Friendly' is, of course, a relative term.)
I watched about half a season of "Nashville" (because MRS. COACH TAYLOR, OMG) - might be fun for you to name-spot through a few episodes now that you know the scene a bit.
