The Libertine
Apr. 11th, 2006 09:06 amSaw The Libertine with my friend Kristen, who is as rabid a Johnny Depp addict as any of you. Besides being fun to watch, I think Johnny Depp is a genuinely good actor, and after all the swooney heroes and rogues he’s played over the years it’s so great to see him in a role where his face is rotting off from syphilis. John Malkovich is great as always, but is it possible to consider him a really good actor when, if you consider the scope of his career, he’s never played roles as much as played John Malkovich Playing Roles? Kinda like Christopher Walken. And John Malkovich’s complete inability to do any kind of accent is really pronounced when everyone else is at least making an attempt. But, when you’re such a pleasure to watch, we can forgive you just about anything. And don’t worry, John, we know that nose wasn’t your fault, tell us who the makeup-prosthesis guy was and we’ll see he never works in this town again.
