you wanna roll in my mercedes
Sep. 11th, 2008 09:31 amWent to this Mercedes AMG thing where they show off the new models, you can drive their cars on some local roads, they set up a C63 on a dyno do you can floor it and see how their spankin new engine feels. It was nice and all, but not as interesting as the Lexus and Merc and BMW things I been to where they set up an off-street track for you, those are a blast. But they had free food, and some nifty gee-whiz presentations of the technology. A pavilion full of spokesmen and salespeople trying to convince you what a premium/luxury/performance experience is the AMG product; in other words - douchebags. They did have an SLR McLaren, that was awesome. Strictly for ogling, not for driving, it’s still a breathtaking machine. The gullwing doors are so trick. It’s a silver barracuda missile. And it’s really uncomfortable inside, the seats are carbon fiber buckets with maybe an inch of padding, I respect dramatic concessions to performance.
I don’t respect paddle shifters, I think they’re lame on the AMG. I suppose when you have more than 400 horsepower they’re a good idea to keep your more idiotic customers from frying the drivetrain, but still. When I spin the RPMs to 6000 and pull up, I expect to shift now, not when the ECU deigns it the best moment to do so. Super lame.
Mercedes Benz makes very nice cars, but I don’t think I’ll ever be their target market, there too many other things I’d rather to do with sixty thousand dollars.
