That Future Bible Heroes song is the saddest song ever, and it's my favorite song to dance to. "Eden" is also really really sad, but just a little bit too slow to dance to comfortably. That's Hooverphonic, not Future Bible Heroes. That song has almost reached the level of ubiquity that you don't have to mention the band name anymore, but not quite. It's not "Teardrop" or "Bloodletting" or "Slut". Of course, it's twice as difficult for your song to get instant title recognition when the name is a single-word noun. But they're sad, those two songs, they make me think of a girl smiling and crying at the same time. They make me believe I could possibly smile and cry at the same time, but I've never tried.

interesting. i love that song too, but for some reason i find it really hard to dance to. i usually try and dance when i hear it just to give chris his props, but i think he's doing something a little off, rhythmically speaking. i need to tap it out sometime.

Have you listened to much of Stephen Merritt's stuff(Magnetic Fields, the 6ths, etc.)? His lyrics are almost always amazing, much of the time in that sad, sad, good way. These are two of my favorites.

Is Sarah Brightman's Eden any easier to dance to? :)

I get the instant title recognition! But that's cause I LOVE Hooverphonic. I love Eden, but I've never been able to figure out, when she says, "I never tried to reach your Eden" is she excusing herself or blaming herself? Listen to the lyrics and let me know what you think. I think it could go either way.

I love that at the end of the song really lightly in the background you can hear what sound like ambulance sirens (the British kind). It really makes it feel sadder, and more like a plea.

You can smile and cry at the same time. It just takes special circumstances.

To answer one of your comments, Sarah Brightman's Eden is easier *not* to dance to. It's easier for me to sit on my ass on the sidelines and complain about my love/hate relationship with Sarah Brightman.
