Iron Chefs Bacon
Apr. 6th, 2006 07:44 amBacon Battle 2006 is on, we’ve got four esteemed bacon judges: Komos, Canongrrl, Diana D, and ChristianB, and four competing chefs: Couplingchaos, Cris, Mike F, and Julishka. We may have space for a couple more chefs, so if you got what it takes, step on up. The winner of the Bacon Battle will receive (in addition to eternal renown and adoration) a sampler of weird-ass gourmet bacons from Savenors.
The party starts at 8:00, the judges will be seated at 9:00 and the first Bacon Chef will present their dish soon after. While one Chef is presenting for the judges, the next Chef in line will be plating their dish, so allow say 10 minutes to fix your 4 plates. You will have from 8:00 to do some foodprep, but keep in mind my kitchen is tiny so space is very limited.
One of our judges has an unfortunate allergy to shellfish, so shellfishes will have to be excluded. Bacon wrapped scallops are way cliché anyway.
The Rules, liberally plagiarized from Komos:
1. You’ll be preparing small tasting portions for the 4 judges, but of course I encourage you to bring extra for me, the other contestants and party guests.
2. My kitchen is tiny so the majority of the preparation must be done off-site. You can heat stuff up and plate your dishes, of course, but keep in mind that space and time will be limited.
3. Use of cookbooks/recipes is permitted. All recipes should be credited, however, and if you do go this route, it is far preferable that you use recipes as templates rather than slavishly following someone else's instructions. Creativity is, after all, one of the criteria for judging...
4. Judging will be based on a familiar 20 point scale. A possible five points will be given in each of the following categories: Presentation, Creativity, Taste, and Use of Theme Ingredient.
Mmmmmmm bacon.
